Triumph for worthy causes thanks to Rotary Club of Lewes

The Rotary Club of Lewes has been able to raise £5,500 for local charities and good causes thanks to the generosity of local residents.

For 12 nights detween December 5 and 20, club members braved the rain and high winds to assist Father Christmas in visiting many parts of Lewes, Kingston and Ringmer.

They made door-to-door collections in aid of the club’s Christmas Tree of Goodwill appeal which is one of their annual events.

It resulted in the bumper sum. In keeping with previous years all the money collected will be donated to local charities and good causes.

Some has already been spent in advance on Tesco vouchers which were distributed to a number of less fortunate local families, who would have otherwise had a rather bleak Christmas.

The Rotary Club of Lewes would like to thank not only all those who contributed but also the Castle and Barbican Rotary clubs and Lewes Lions for all the help they provided.

Jim Hatfield, President of the Rotary Club of Lewes, said: “This project was masterminded by Brian McCarthy and his Rotary Community Service Committee.

“It is pleasing to see that their tremendous effort has produced such a brilliant result for the community.”
