Trophy eludes cadets by one point

A TEAM from Rye and District Sea Cadets missed taking the National Sea Cadet shooting trophy by just one point.

The recent competition in Bisley saw Rye and Kendal - the top two Sea Cadet teams in the country competing head to head for a chance to win the coveted national trophy.

On hand to present the National Trophy and the runners-up medals was Captain of the Sea cadets, Captain Mark Windsor RN.

The Rye team consisted of Shannon Blackman, Josh Fitzpatrick, Kieran Baker, Nick Caister and Ed Jury.

Officer in charge, Chief Petty Officer Steven Smith said: “Although the competition was very close, the cadets took the news that they had lost by just one point very well indeed.

“They congratulated Kendal Sea Cadets on their win which I think shows great sportsmanship. The team have trained exceptionally hard over the past seven months and I would like to congratulate the team and their coach Mr Paul Whiteman.”

Rye Sea Cadets meets twice a week, on Mondays 6.50 - 9pm for seniors and Fridays 6.50 - 9pm for all cadets. The headquarters are located in Rock Channel.
