THE ARUNDEL and Downland Community Leisure Trust is about to dive in and apply for much-needed lottery funding to help the Arundel swimming pool appeal reach its 1.75 million target.

Appeal director David Wood attended an Arun District Council workshop on Thursday, providing guidance on applying to lottery grant providers, Awards for All, and praised the council for its help and expertise.

He said: "The trust will have no difficulty in satisfying the Awards for All criteria for a project that enables people to take part in sports and community activities.

"I am, therefore, most optimistic that our application will be successful."

The trust hopes to use the funding to make improvements to the existing buildings on the Arundel pool site, enabling it to be used immediately, at a reasonable rate, by local clubs within the community.

Long-term plans involve the site being redeveloped, providing the community with a sports and leisure complex, including refurbished outdoor pools, community sports hall and a health and fitness suite.

Anyone wishing to support the appeal can send a cheque made out to ACT appeal to The Copper Kettle, 21 Tarrant Street, Arundel, BN18 9DG.
