Trust names support worker Simon employee of the year

A support worker has been recognised for his work by a UK charity which assists people with disabilities.

Simon Kerr, a support worker from The Disabilities Trust’s autism community house, Beech Hill in Haywards Heath, has won The Disabilities Trust’s employee of the year award.

Simon, who was nominated for the award by his Manager Rachel Priestley, won it for his innovative thinking, project management and going the extra mile in his role.

Simon has created projects at the house to engage the people the charity supports in meaningful activities, such as building the woodwork shed, which is pictured above behind Simon and chief executive Irene Sobowale.

Generously, he has used his free time to source various materials for the new ideas and has drawn up further plans for all to take part in.

Simon has also involved the whole house in decorating their own lounge; encouraging them to do it with no additional maintenance support.

Rachel Priestley, service manager at Beech Hill, said: “Simon works tirelessly to ensure that our service users have numerous interesting activities to do.
