Tthousands celebrate cartoon Carnival

A CARTOON theme inspired the floats for Bexhill Carnival 2009.

Thousands turned out to watch the procession as bands, majorettes, floats and dancers wound through the town, finishing at the Polegrove on a beautiful, if blustery, Saturday afternoon.

The coveted Best In Show award was taken by the Ore Masqueraders. Their Chitty Chitty Bang Bang design also won the Family Group category.

Altogether, 34 floats filled seven categories. Judges praised the "magnificent" effort and imagination on display.

Record numbers of stalls and fairground rides filled the Polegrove.

Displays by The Robertson Piping and Drumming Academy and local martial arts groups entertained the crowds, while a dog show awarded prizes in ten categories.

Nim Whitmarsh, chairman of Bexhill Carnival Committee, commented on the week: "Wednesday night was our quiz night. It raised the grand sum of 300, a record for a Bexhill Carnival quiz. Everyone who took part enjoyed it. The music in the Polegrove on Friday was a good night, and it's gone very well today."
