Tudor Day at Ninfield

Making Taffaty Tart and learning about the Golden Hind was all part of Tudor Day at Ninfield Primary school.

Year 3 pupils threw themselves into all things from that time in British history by dressing up for the event and taking part in different activities led by teacher Susie Holmes assisted by Alison Newnham.

The morning centred around making Taffaty Tart, which is a type of apple pie, and the afternoon highlight was clay-making, as pupils helped model a Tudor galleon and discovered that rope was made out of wood.

Susie commented: "They also did interviewing for different members of the crew on board the Golden Hind, with questions using their ICT.

"Our topic this term, interlinked with ICT, history, and drama, has been Tudor explorers.

"The children came in dressed up...but their costumes gradually came off as the day went on."

Pupils Lewis Day and Bradley Simmons, both 8, agreed the day had been a good one while Jack Sorrell commented: "We have learned lots of good activities. We have learned about Tudors and galleons and Henry 8th and his six wives."
