Tunnel boring machine finishes 2.6km tunnel in Peacehaven

A TUNNEL boring machine used by Southern Water for its £300m sewage works has hollowed out a 2.6km tunnel.

The high tech piece of equipment, called Hollyblue, burrowed from Lower Hoddern Farm in Peacehaven to Portobellow in Telscombe Cliffs.

The 65-tonne machine has been underground since July last year creating the new sewer tunnel.

Hollyblue was named after a butterfly found on the South Downs by children from Telscombe Primary School.
