Tweeds and finery donned for charity ride

IT was all tweeds and finery as the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride thundered into town on Sunday.

Riders, sitting astride their classic and custom bikes, were taking part in a global charity event involving more than 3,000 towns and cities.

Originating in Sydney, the ride has become a popular fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Research and this year’s target was three million dollars worldwide.

Spokesman Bob Lock said: “The West Sussex group numbered 56 great bikes ridden by a dashing group of guys and chic gals.”

They parked up in Montague Place, Worthing, around 10.30am then moved on to East Beach Café, Littlehampton.

The ride then stopped at Gloucester Road car park in Bognor Regis for half an hour, where Sunday morning strollers and holidaymakers at Butlin’s donated £105.27 before the ride set out for Market Cross, West Street, Chichester.

Together with personal sponsorship, more than £4,000 was raised in the West Sussex Ride.
