Two men were arrested after a car crashed off the road near Burgess Hill on Sunday evening (September 27).
Police said a burgundy Ford Fiesta had been travelling along Gatehouse Lane around 6pm when it failed to stop at the dead end junction with the A273. The vehicle crashed through a hedge, trees and a wooden barrier and then ran across the A273 before coming to a stop on the kerb the other side.
A passing driver and people living locally went to assist, but the two men in the car refused help and left the scene, police said. They were followed by a member of the public who reported their location to police officers who then detained them. They were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries before being taken into custody.
A Sussex Police statement said a 24-year-old man from Newhaven was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop after a road accident and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
The second man was de-arrested following treatment.
