Two arrested following burglary in Ashington

TWO men were found hiding in a hedge and arrested on suspicion of burglary following a break in at the Co-op in London Road, Ashington yesterday (Monday, April 9)

Police attended the scene of the burglary at around 4.10am following reports of suspicious activity from members of the public. When officers arrived they discovered that the front window of the store had been smashed.

A search was made and a nearby traffic unit located a suspect vehicle parked in a driveway in Ashington, a holdall containing batteries was spotted lying in the front garden and officers noticed damage to a nearby fence.

A search of neighbouring gardens revealed the two suspects hiding in a thick hedge at the back of one of the properties.

A 27-year-old man from Littlehampton and a 40-year-old man from Shoreham remain in custody for questioning.
