Two arrested in connection with £2,500 bag snatch in town centre

Police hunting a pair of bag-snatchers who stole £2,500 from a local businesswoman have arrested two men.

The theft occured just before 1pm on Tuesday, when the woman left Barclays Bank in Devonshire Road with the money in a green plastic bag.

The first man, described as black and in his mid-to-late twenties, snatched the bag and ran down Parkhurst Road into Sackville Road, where a passer-by saw him get into a silver blue Rover saloon car driven by the second man.

They drove towards the seafront, turning left at the roundabout junction.

Two men were arrested in Brighton early on Wednesday morning, after a car matching this description was stopped.

A quantity of cash was recovered. The two men are currently in custody for interview and enquiries continue. The first man was described as being of medium height and build, wearing a black winter coat and possibly a reddish scarf.
