The work will mean each park closing for around a month to six weeks, but when opened again, children can enjoy new, safer fun-filled equipment.

Manor Road closed this week, but is expected to reopen before Christmas. The new equipment being installed includes two climbing frames with slides, a roundabout, a see-saw swing and three picnic tables. There will also be a new path, trees, topsoil and turf.

Saltdean Oval is due to close in mid-December and open at the end of January. The upgrade will involve extensive work and many items of new equipment. These include a carousel swing, roundabout, a climbing frame, post office and shop play panels, bongos and xylophone play panels, swings and a Rota-Roka spinning dish.

Cllr Gill Mitchell, chair of the council’s Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee, said: “The refurbishments will mean children using these popular parks will have new, exciting and safer equipment to maximise their enjoyment.

“The upgrades are part of our continuing work to keep our children’s play areas as up to date and good as they can be for our youngsters.”
