1066 Cycling Festival is a brand new free two day festival celebrating everything cycling.

The festival runs on June 11 and 12 in Hastings and Bexhill.

Organised by Hastings Borough Council’s Active Hastings team, with support from Rother District Council, the event will showcase some fantastic cycling events, demonstrations and family fun activities.

The Festival opens at the Stade Open Space, in Hastings, on Saturday with a school and family parade.

Other events include a pro BMX demo by The Source, stunt displays by the amazing 3SIXTY bicycle stunt team, a chance to look at Electra bikes and find out why they are so special with Handsome Bicycles and even a best decorated bike competition.

Events finish at the Stade Open Space at 6pm but continue in Bottle Alley, Hastings with the Bottle Alley Bike Bomb. Races start at 7pm. To participate register for free at the Pier from midday.

Cllr Dawn Poole, the council’s lead member for leisure said: “This is set to be a great new festival that will add to our already vibrant calendar of events.

“There will be so much to see and do; something for everyone. Come and enjoy the fun and don’t forget to bring your decorated bike along and register for the races in the Bottle Alley Bike Bomb!”

The fun continues on Sunday June 12 at the De La Warr Pavilion 11am – 3pm.

Events in Bexhill include free bike maintenance provided by Bexhill Bike Hire, a Coastal Culture Trail ride plus picnic and BMX sessions at Bexhill BMX Track. Go to www.visit1066country.com/cyclingfestival.
