The previous Cowfold Post Office - just across the road from the new site - closed on August 7 when popular postmistress Ros Daly retired.

A statement from the Post Office Ltd said: “To maintain local access to Post Office services for our customers in this area, we are aiming to open the branch as a temporary hosted outreach service on Thursday 24 September at 2pm. We are also looking for a more permanent solution for the village.

“The same range of services as previously will be available at the hosted outreach service with the exclusion of car tax renewal.

“Customers can still collect benefits in cash using our everyday banking services or Post Office card account.”
