Two men charged with drink-driving offences

Andrius Jackunas, 31, was arrested at 3.05am on Sunday (June 7) after he crashed his car in New Road, Littlehampton, Sussex Police has said.

Mr Jackunas, of Timberleys, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 23 June.

The other man charged was Angus McKenzie, 50, of East Preston.

He was arrested at 7pm on the same day after he was seen driving on the wrong side of the road in Columbia Drive, Worthing.

Mr McKenzie, of Normandy Drive, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 25 June.

The arrests came as part of the police force’s latest clampdown on drink and drug-driving across Sussex and Surrey.

The scheme, called Operation Dragonfly, will see road policing unit officers on dedicated patrols looking for offenders.

Teams are responding to tip-offs from members of the public who see someone they know has been drinking getting into a car to drive.

Stop checks are also being set up at locations across Sussex and Surrey, in particular at locations where there is intelligence that there has been a history of drink-driving.

In previous campaigns, the forces have named those charged with drink or drug-driving offences that were committed during the month-long crackdown.

In addition, this year the forces will be releasing footage of convicted offenders that shows the state they were in when they got behind the wheel - and how important it is that they are banned from the roads before they hurt anyone.
