Two rescued from Sidley blaze

TWO people were rescued when fire swept through a Sidley property in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police have sealed the property while an investigation is carried out to establish whether it was arson.

Firefighters were called to Cumberland Road just after 4am. A 37 year-old man and a 10 year-old boy were taken to hospital suffering from smaoke inhalation and kept in for observation.

Police said later: "A scene-guard remains in place while fire investigators and forensic scientists try to establish the exact cause of the fire and ascertain whether or not it was caused deliberately.

"Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around 4am this morning or has information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 quoting serial 194 of January 9 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The incident was the second Bexhill fire rescue in a week. Last Tuesday, firefighters rescued a 64 year-old Pebaham woman who they found hiding in a cupboard in her smoke-filled home at Filsham Drive.
