Two rescued in Bognor flat fire

Two people were helped to safety after a fire broke out in a Bognor Regis flat.

The individuals were assisted by firefighters into the street from a neighbouring flat in Clarence Road. Their accommodation was heavily smoke logged from the blaze in a ground floor property.

The alarm was raised just after 1am on Saturday (March 21). Almost 30 firefighters from Bognor, Chichester and Littlehampton attended because it was reported that people were trapped in the burning flat.

A third of it was damaged by the flames and all of its rooms suffered smoke damage. The rest of the three storey building, which has been converted to flats, was also completely damaged by smoke.

The fire crews were at the scene for about an hour. They used a fan to ventilate the property.
