Two seriously injured after multiple-vehicle crash between Midhurst and Petworth

Two drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a multiple-vehicle crash between Midhurst and Petworth on Friday afternoon (May 15), police have said.

Police officers were called to a collision involving three cars on the A272 at Tillington at 4.40pm.

They were joined by ambulance and fire crews at the scene, where one of the vehicles was on fire.

"The drivers of two of the three vehicles sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital," a Sussex Police spokesperson said.

"Anyone who witnessed what happened can report online or call 101, quoting serial 950 of 15/5."

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said everyone involved in the incident were out of the vehicles by the time crews arrived.

A spokesman said: "Crews from Midhurst and Petworth were mobilised to the scene and upon arrival found three vehicles which had been involved in an RTC. One of the vehicles was on fire.

“Firefighters worked alongside paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, and officers from Sussex Police.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus set to work extinguishing the fire using a compressed air foam jet and CO2 extinguisher.

“The last crew left the scene at 5.55pm.”
