Uckfield: Boost for new windmill

AN Uckfield charity has been given a boost in its attempts to keep one of the area s more attractive locations open.

Uckfield and District Preservation Society has been awarded a 5,000 grant towards the upkeep of Nutley Windmill.

The society received the money after being successfully shortlisted from over 3,000 entries to DIY giants B&Q s community awards scheme.

The money will be used to weatherproof the timber-clad windmill.

Robert Bonnett, leader of the preservation society, said: This is fantastic news. We try very hard to provide a vital resource to the community and our funds are always limited. We applied for this grant hoping we had a good chance, but we are absolutely thrilled to have won.

Nutley Windmill, circa 1700, is one of only five open-trestle windmills in the country. The mill is open to the public and to schools for educational visits.
