Uckfield business grows from four to 12

Uckfield bookkeepers, Team 4 Solutions, have outgrown their company name. The company was set up two years ago with four members of staff but has now has 12 and is still growing.

Business owner Claire Packham is proud of her team. She said: “I have very high standards and want my staff to be the best, and they are living up to that ideal.

“We work as a team, with our clients and with their accountants and I am delighted to say that most of our business comes by word of mouth. Accountants like the records we give them and recommend us to their clients.”

Team 4 Solutions, based at Quarry House, Mill Lane, works mainly across East Sussex and Kent but is now branching out into London, West Sussex, Essex and Hampshire.

Claire went on: “We do visit our clients but distance is no problem because, thanks to cloud-based computer systems, most communication can take place via email.”

Team 4 Solutions now has its own payroll bureau with dedicated staff. This enables the company to offer the service to clients who already use its bookkeepers.

In future, Claire’s aim is to offer more software training. She explained: “We already train clients’ staff to use software but I would like to set up a training centre where we can organise workshops for say, Sage user groups, where we can look in-depth at particular areas.”

Claire is chair of the East Sussex branch of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and runs Continuing Professional Development sessions for members who have monthly meetings at Blackboys. She was recently granted a fellowship with the ICB and is one of only 50 to hold this honour.

One of her employees, Caroline Savill, was named Finance Employee of the Year for 2012 in the LUCA Awards run by the Institute of Certified Bookers. The awards are named after Luca Pacioli, founder of double-entry bookkeeping. She was one of three Institute members shortlisted for the award which was announced ‘Oscars’ style by the ICB’s chief executive Gary Carter.

Caroline lives in Uckfield with her husband and two sons and was “thrilled and elated” to have won and said: “It was so unexpected as the other nominees were from huge companies like Hewlett Packard.”

Claire said: “We are all so proud of Caroline.”
