An Uckfield Air Cadet has been selected for the Air Training Corps of Great Britain football team and will be playing for them in February.
Cadet Harrison Rathborn, of the Uckfield( 2530) Air Cadets, started playing football at the age of five for Uckfield Grasshoppers JFC, staying with them for 12 years before joining Lewes Football Academy in September.
This is Lewes Football Club’s first academy and Harrison will be with them for two years.
The 17-year-old represented the Uckfield squadron at senior level football, then the Sussex Wing, followed by the London & South East Region before being selected for Great Britain.
Harrison was coached by his dad, Keith Rathborn, who also in his time played to a high standard.
He has been in the ATC since 13 and represented the squadron at various levels of sport, including rugby, swimming, cross country and athletics.
He has also had great opportunities to fly helicopters, fixed wing planes, gliders and for rifle shooting, travelling around the country to various camps from Crowborough army camp to Lossiemouth air base in Scotland.
His community work includes poppy appeal marshaling at many different locations, carnival nights at Uckfield, East Hoathly, Isfield & Oxted & Endenbridge county fair.
