THE UCKFIELD designer of a record breaking electric motorcycle has won a top award.
Phil Edwards, of Weald EVT, was delighted to hear about the win. The firm was selected from about 500 nominations to receive the Green Apple Environment Award.
The prize includes having his winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice. Weald EVT will also be considered to represent the country in the European Business Awards for the Environment.
It’s been a great year for Phil. He set a new UK speed record with his electric dragster at Santa Pod Raceway in May and is now concentrating on developing high performance battery-powered motorcycles to show they are a viable option for the enthusiast and track-day rider.
Phil said: “I’m very pleased to have won this prestigious award and hope it will help raise awareness of great strides forward being made in the electric vehicle industry. They can deliver powerful, exciting performance and it is important that this message reaches the wider audience of car and motorcycle enthusiasts.”
Phil hopes to display his record-breaking dragster at the House of Commons when collecting his award on November 14.
Wealden MP Charles Hendry has followed progress of the Weald EVT project since the early days and Phil hopes other politicians will take an interest in the technology too.
