Uckfield Lions face busy winter

Members of the Uckfield and District Lions Club are gearing up for a busy autumn and winter.

Currently they are preparing for one of their major fundraising events, the September Classic Car Run.

They say this year it promises to be bigger and better than ever with entrants already outnumbering past years’ final event entries... meaning two pigs on the barbecue!

They have already started getting ready for their autumn diabetes testing morning, Santa’s sleigh and the party for old age pensioners.

Their service commitments continue with Sunday runs for the elderly, helping the Housebound Club, running the minibus and the bookshop.

They have just funded a special chair costing £1,000 for patients in the chemotherapy clinic at the Brighton Cancer Clinic, presented a cheque to the winning school in Wealden’s Safety in Action scheme and made another donation to firefighters’ charity Operation Florian, providing equipment and training to East European firefighters, (first aid training and recycled road rescue equipment in Macedonia.)

They have also refurbished the Tom Mardle Memorial Bench and planters at Uckfield Hospital as well as busily supporting other colleagues in the South East by continuing to raise funds for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance where the District’s guaranteed figure for support over ten years has nearly been achieved in two. The helicopters now have night flying capability and the Lion’s logo on the nacelle.

Uckfield Lions also care for youth in their area by aiding Care for Carers, PHAB and now look to develop ties and support for Youth Clubs in the town.
