Uckfield man dies in crash on country road near Ditchling Common

AN UCKFIELD man died in a car crash around lunch time on Sunday (December 11) on the B2112 between Wivelsfield and Ditchling Common.

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which involved two cars outside the St George’s Retreat.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 1.07pm where a northbound Ford Ka and a southbound Volvo S40 had collided.

The front seat passenger in the Ford, a 29-year-old Uckfield man, died at the scene, while the driver, a 27-year-old man also from Uckfield, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but non life threatening injuries.

The Volvo driver, a 66-year-old Burgess Hill man, and his passenger, a 66-year-old woman also from Burgess Hiil, were treated at the same hospital for cuts and bruises.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Road policing officers are investigating and would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened. If you can help please call on 101 quoting Operation Caldbeck.”
