Uckfield Mum launches appeal to help Japanese children affected by the tsunami

AN UCKFIELD mum was so horrified at images of the Japanese tsunami she has launched an appeal to help children.

Sue Figg was struck by the unity families had shown in trying to rebuild their shattered lives but wondered how the town’s children coped with losing family members.

She spearheaded a campaign supported by town and village head teachers in to reach out to sister communities in Japan. Schools will soon receive a letter inviting donations to appeal to donate to Save the Children’s Japanese Emergency Fund via the Holy Cross School office.

Sue joined councillors, adults and children on Bank Holiday Monday to plant 2,000 English bluebell bulbs donated by J Parker in Elizabeth Gardens.

They aim to create a garden of remembrance reminding people what they can achieve when working together.
