ALEX BUTLER, 18 from Uckfield has been selected by South Downs College tutors for the chance to perform on the BT Live Stage at Hyde Park during the Olympics. Ten music colleges from across the country were each invited to enter two students and Alex successfully passed an audition with his new band Red Butler.

The four band members joined six weeks ago to form Red Butler, including Alex on lead guitar and vocals; Charlie Simpson 17, from Framfield on drums; Jane Pearce, 22 from Brighton as lead vocalist and Steve Eveleigh, 20, from Eastbourne on bass guitar.

The performance date is still to be confirmed, but the band are overwhelmed at the opportunity to be part of the Olympic celebrations.  Alex said: ‘We are honoured to be  chosen and plan to make our own Olympic effort.’

His love for guitar began at the age of seven and he now offers private guitar lessons as well as teaching in schools. He plans to pursue a career in music performing with his other band Cold Heat as well as Red Butler. The band takes its slant on music covers and composes its own materials in the blues and rock genre as well as funk and soul.
