TWEETS and web posts set the town buzzing this week when plans were revealed to change the use of a popular Uckfield restaurant
Proposals were lodged with Wealden District Council to convert Phish Restaurant in Grange Road to medical and dental consulting rooms.
People were shocked and concerned as the restaurant is always full and has won a place in the hearts of keen fish-eaters across town and beyond.
But owner Chrissie Benz said: “I am so pleased you rang. We have absolutely no plans to close. This is just dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s. Planning consent lasts for three years and I just ensuring my Plan B. If the economy does a drastic downturn and I had to close at least I know the there was another use in place for the building.
“But please tell your readers we are going strong and look forward to welcoming them. We are still packed out most nights with people who love their fresh fish.”
