Uckfield’s Rocks Park says ‘ride ‘em cowboy’

Yee-ha! The Wild West was well and truly won thanks to Rocks Park School which held its summer fayre on Saturday, July 5 with a Wild West theme.

Wild West re-enactment group Spearfish Creek gave the huge crowd a firecracker of a show and the theme was taken up with enthusiasm by visitors who looked out their stetsons, high heeled boots and even the occasional set of chaps.

Daniel Mitchell, chairman of the Friends of Rocks Park School described how he wanted to give this year’s event a real community spirit by getting local businesses, groups, dancers, performers and musicians involved.

These included Universal Dance, the Uckfield Performance Ensemble and Carolina Barker with her athletic Zumba group which gave a number of high-octane displays.

He encouraged members of the Friends to trawl Uckfield High Street asking shopkeepers and traders to provide prizes for the raffle and all of them came up trumps. As a result raffle tickets sold out as people competed to win prizes from Josefina, Carvills, Thyme for Food and Friends, The Hobby Box and Taylor Tofts.

Framfield Road butchers DJ Osbournes provided burgers and sausages for a delicious barbecue - which added authenticity to the Western theme. There was even a mock bull-rider machine which tested the balance and flexibility of the most supple of visitors. The weather played ball by clearing up in the afternoon – not quite Death Valley but warm enough for plenty of the Good, but definitely not the Bad or the Ugly.
