Uckfield will be playing its part in commemorating the 100 years since the start of World War One by holding a day-long event in the town’s Civic Centre on June 28 from 10am until 4pm.

The day will start with the tolling of church bells in the town and surrounding villages, and the event in the Civic Centre will be opened by Sussex Deputy Lord Lieutenant Colonel Chris Blessington OBE.

There will be a series of WWI presentations by expert speakers, a display of artefacts and a live brass band concert.

The formal commemoration will be completed on July 13 when the town’s churches will combine to present an ecumenical church service at Holy Cross Church from 3pm.
