Uckfield woman found dead by husband

A 50-year-old woman died at her home in Uckfield last summer.

Kimberley English died on July 3 last year in Lewes Road, an inquest heard.

The hearing at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (March 25), heard Mrs English had a ‘complex medical history’ with ‘back-to-back health problems’ according to her GP Dr Lara Hutchins.

Dr Hutchins said Mrs English suffered from frequent epileptic seizures due to a car accident in 2006 and was also bipolar.

She said, “Mrs English had complex physical and mental health problems and she was under constant review.”

In the early hours of July 3 paramedics were called to the house by Andrew English, Mrs English’s husband, as he had found his wife unconscious in the bedroom.

Ashleigh Jones, an attending paramedic, said Mr English told them his wife had taken some cocaine two days earlier and then had a seizure around 10pm on July 2.

Mr English had stayed awake to keep an eye on her through the night and called an ambulance when he found his wife unresponsive, the inquest heard.

Ambulance crews arrived and at 4.39am resuscitation attempts were stopped and police officers were called to the scene.

Police constable Nathan Morris said Mr English told him Mrs English had been shielding due to Covid-19 worries.

PC Morris said there were no Covid suspicions at the time, but officers were in PPE.

Despite this, the post-mortem did find signs Mrs English had been exposed to Covid-19.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze ruled Mrs English died due to Covid-19 and drug use.

He said, “They are separate elements, not tied together.”
