SPRING FASHION SHOW: As I wasn't there myself, I'm most grateful to Nadia Florence-Marshall for the following account of this fabulous Show, which took place in the Hall last Thursday evening, March 23. The event was attended by over sixty people and raised the fabulous net sum of £525 for the Friends of St Mary's Church.

“I opened the event by thanking everyone for supporting the Friends and described some of the work the Committee undertakes. First on the cat walk was the Miss Captain range, described as very comfortable, practical and affordable, compered by Michelle Duke and modelled by Liz Turgoose, Leonie Wheeler, Celia Langrish and Gill Rothery, all from Udimore village. It is not easy walking through a room full of friends and family. They all did remarkably well and looked great. Miss Captain clothes will be on display and for sale in Udimore on Saturday April 8: please contact Gill Rothery on 01424 882774. The raffle was amazing, with contributions from residents of Udimore village, Miss Captain, Kontrast of Rye, Herald and Heart and The George Hotel, Rye. Thank you all very much.

“The second half of the evening was the new boutique Kontrast of Rye and their models were Susan Taber from Udimore, Beverley Pritchard of Ore, and Jilly Mercer and Hannah Cornwall of Heathfield. Susie Jaggs and Irena Stout put together a stunning range of clothes and Susie compered the collection. The evening ended with Herald and Heart Hats: the models were Jurgita Babianskaite, from Udimore, and Beverley Pritchard, who had to do a very quick change and dash to the other end of the hall - even I couldn’t resist modelling one of the gorgeous bespoke hats. Beverley was tall enough to model the fabulous “4 Weddings” hat to bring a fabulous evening to a close. A big thank you from the Committee to all those who attended, those who provided their collections (lots of work involved there), the models, and all those lovely ladies who made the scrummy food for the evening.” CHURCH SERVICE: This Sunday Sung Family Eucharist will be celebrated at 9.30am.

MESSY CHURCH: This will be in the Hall at 4pm on Tuesday (April 4).

LENT LUNCH: The third and last of this year’s Lent Lunches will be between noon and 1.30pm in Brede Rectory next Friday, April 7 (not today, as I wrongly stated in this column last week). Like the two previous lunches, it will be a simple but wholesome meal (soup followed by bread and cheese) in good company. No charge, but donations for the Hope House orphanage in Kenya will be gratefully accepted.
