MEDICAL TALKS NEXT WEDNESDAY: The Patient Participation Groups of two local practices have both arranged evening talks this week. By a pure coincidence, both groups have chosen the same evening, Wednesday June 1!

At 7pm (doors open at 6.30pm) doctors at the Northiam and Broad Oak surgeries will be speaking in Northiam Village Hall about “Diabetes, an Epidemic”. This is an increasingly worrying worldwide problem, the latest facts about which they will explain.

At 6.30pm (doors open at 6pm) the Ferry Road patients’ group has arranged for Mr Simon Baer, an ENT consultant, to speak in Rye Primary School, telling us “All we need to know about Deafness”. Please note that at present there is no access from the rear of the school building.

Whichever of these two talks you choose to go to is sure to be extremely informative.

BEAUCHAMPS GARDEN: Next Sunday afternoon (June 5) Beauchamps garden will be open for the National Gardens Scheme, as part of the NGS Festival Weekend. There should be lots to see and enjoy in the flower borders, the woodland area and the kitchen garden, with many of Matty’s plants for sale, and teas served by the Friends of St Mary’s Church. The net proceeds from the sale of entry tickets (£4.50, children free) will be given to the group of national medical charities supported by the NGS, which last year raised a total of very nearly £2.5 million for these good causes.

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING: Very much further ahead, please note in your diaries that this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning will be on Saturday October 8, in the Hall. Rather nearer the date, more information will be available from Gillian Rothery, who has very kindly offered to return to the helm for this year’s revival of the event.
