RYE ARTS FESTIVAL: The 44th annual Festival starts today (Friday) and continues till Sunday, September 27. There are now no more tickets left for this evening’s opening concert, but it’s still possible to book for most of the other events in this year’s varied and interesting programme. Full details can be seen on www.ryeartsfestival.co.uk , at the box office in Phillips and Stubbs (47/49 Cinque Ports Street), or by picking up a programme booklet (available at many Rye shops).

CHURCH SERVICES: In St Mary’s this Sunday Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8am, and the monthly Family Service for All at 11.15am (followed by refreshments in the Hall). Next Sunday (September 20) please note that the Sung Family Eucharist will be at 9.30am (not 11.15am, as shown in the Parish Magazine).

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: Councillors will be very grateful for your support at their meeting at 6.30pm this Wednesday (September 16) in the Hall. For details of their agenda, please refer to the Parish Council September Newsletter, due to be circulated shortly.

MURDER MYSTERY EVENING: This event, in the Hall at 7pm on Saturday October 3, will be a first for Udimore. Matty and I greatly enjoyed one in Iden last year presented by members of the same group who will be coming to us. The evening starts with a short one-act play (one of several written by group members themselves) at the end of which we’re told of a murder, committed offstage.

During the fish-and-chips supper interval which follows we’re invited to discuss who we think the murderer was.

We’re then supplied with more clues during a session in which one member of the cast, the detective, interviews in turn each of the other members, the suspects. After more discussion, we’re then invited to come up with our verdict.

Gentle exercise for the little grey cells, not too serious and great fun. There will also be a raffle. By ringing 01424 882657 or 01424 882774 you can reserve a table for six or eight (but smaller numbers can easily be fitted in). Tickets cost £10, bring your own drinks. All proceeds will be for the Friends of St Mary’s Church, the organizers of this event.
