Udimore

Apologies: At the last minute I absentmindedly forgot to send in the piece for last week’s Village Voice which I’d drafted just before we were away from home for a week. Please pay special attention to the first two of the following items, which are still relevant, though with a week’s less notice than I should have liked to give you.

Kurdistan Crisis: If humanly possible, either today or tomorrow (Friday or Saturday) please take to the special collection point in Rye Church any warm clothes or bedding you can spare for the unfortunate people of Kurdistan. Many of them are suffering terribly. Displaced by civil war, they lack proper shelter in present sub-zero conditions.

Quiz Night: It’s not too late to book tickets for the annual Udimore Quiz Night in the Hall, next Saturday evening, February 7, starting at 6.45pm. These are always very enjoyable occasions: you’ll be surprised how many answers to Frank Langrish and Bob Turgoose’s ingenious questions you already know (even without prior research). There’ll be lots of laughs, top quality fish and chips, and the attractive prospect of winning a joint of lamb. Don’t be put off if you’re on your own: you can easily be fitted into a team. Frank’s phone number is 01424 882250 - tickets are good value at £10 (bring your own drinks).

Winter Lunch Party: Being away, we were disappointed to miss the Overseas Group lunch last Thursday. Besides being much enjoyed, it also raised the excellent sum of £645 for the four charities supported by the group. Liz Turgoose has asked me to thank everyone who helped to make this event such a success.

Services: The monthly Sung Family Eucharist will be in St Mary’s Church at 9.30am this Sunday. Refreshments will be served in the Hall after the service, at which all will be welcome, not only those with families. The monthly Messy Church will be in the Hall at 4pm on Tuesday, February 3.
