Udimore

Richard Holmes, Beauchamps

This Sunday evening our annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will take place in Udimore Church, starting at 6pm. You’re recommended to come along in good time, to be sure of getting seats, as Brede parishioners are also invited to the service. As usual, there will be a collection at this service, and refreshments afterwards: mulled wine or soft drinks, and mince pies.

At 5pm on Christmas Eve there will be a Carol and Crib Service in Udimore Church, at which everyone will be welcome, especially young families.

Also in Udimore Church, for the first time for many years, at 11.30pm that evening there will be our own Midnight Service, to see us through to the early hours of Christmas Day. It will be followed at 11.15am by a Family Eucharist, to celebrate Christmas Day itself.

You’re reminded that next Thursday and Friday mornings (December 26 and 27), the recycling collection will be replaced by a waste collection (black wheely bins only) thus giving us waste collections for three successive weeks. Normal recycling collections in alternate weeks (boxes and green wheely bins) will resume on January 8 and 9.

Please continue sending me details of recent and forthcoming Udimore events, remembering that, because of the holiday, the earliest they can be published is the January 10 edition of Rye Observer (for which they must reach me by 9am on Tuesday January 3, please).

I’d like to wish all readers of this column a merry and joyful Christmas!
