I’ve now heard from the St Mary’s Community Hall management committee that the barn dance on August 17 raised £475 towards their funds, that they’re very grateful to the donors of numerous tea towels, and that they’re urgently appealing for the return of one of the large round table cloths, which disappeared recently.

Tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 5pm, and then every day till September 27, two of our Udimore artists, A Lincoln Taber and Rebecca Coates, present an exhibition of their recent work at the Turtle Fine Art Gallery, Rye (near the Landgate).

Tomorrow also sees the start of the annual Rye Arts Festival. Every day and every evening during the next two weeks this will present a series of events appealing to an exceptionally wide range of tastes and interests. If you don’t already have a programme, do pick one up in Rye, where they’re widely available (the Festival box office is at Phillips & Stubbs, 47/49 Cinque Ports Street), or on line from www.ryeartsfestival.co.uk

Also tomorrow, between 1pm and 5.30pm, there’s a second opportunity to visit some of Winchelsea’s Secret Gardens, six of them this time, two of which weren’t open to the public in June. Combined admission to all six gardens £5, children free. Teas in the New Hall, plants for sale.

The service on Sunday morning in St Mary’s Church is a Sung Family Eucharist, which starts at 11.15am.

On Wednesday (September 18) the singers’ group Vocality meets at 2pm in the Hall for its second session of the new season. Also in the Hall that evening the Parish Council holds its bimonthly meeting, starting at 6.30pm. A copy of its agenda will be on the parish notice board.
