This Sunday, September 2, there won’t be a morning Family Service for All in St Mary’s Church.

Instead at 3pm in front of the Community Hall there will be a Pet Service, followed by tea. This will be open to all, including pets (dogs on leads, please), with their owners (or handlers). Anyone intending to bring a pony, horse, alpaca or other larger animal should give Nan Hacking a ring beforehand, please (01424 882348).

On Tuesday, September 4, Messy Church will return to its normal time and venue, 3pm in the Hall. The very appropriate theme this month is New Beginnings.

On Saturday week, September 15, you’re reminded that from 7 till 11pm there will be a 60s/70s Dance Night in the Hall, billed as “a night of nostalgia, food, drink and great company”. 60s/70s outfit optional, but there will be prizes for the best dressed. There will be a licensed bar, and a barbecue (vegetarians catered for on request). Please ring Cherry (07761 730956) for tickets (adults £5, children £2.50, under 3s free).

For the Brede and Udimore Overseas Group jumble sale in the Hall the following Saturday, September 22, from 10am till noon, please remember to be on the lookout for any items of high class jumble you can spare. Liz Turgoose (01424 882657) or Judy Edwards (01424 882222) will be delighted to collect them from your home if you give one of them a ring.

And the week after that, please note in your diaries the date of Friday September 28, 10am till noon, in the Hall. That will be the morning we take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, for Macmillan Cancer Support. To help raise funds for this highly deserving charity, there will again be several Bring-and-Buy stalls: Home-Made (cakes, jams, preserves etc), Hand-Made (arts and crafts), and Home-Grown (plants, bulbs, seeds and produce).

Message from Gillian Rothery (who is running the event again this year), “Please start making, baking and growing!”

Richard Holmes, Beauchamps
