Udimore village voice

Some 30 members of Udimore Wildlife Society gathered at Court Lodge Farm last Sunday, for a lunchtime barbecue and social.

As regards weather, it proved to be a lucky choice of day, though members narrowly missed seeing the local flock of some 70 house martins which had left the farmhouse on their autumn migration the previous evening. The event concluded with a brief walk around the farm, during which a keen-eyed member spotted a treecreeper in Ladywell Wood. Liz and Keith Dean were thanked for their much-appreciated hospitality.

The Brede Flower Festival, in St George’s Church this weekend, is always worth a visit: the usual high standard of colourful and ingenious floral displays is sure to be maintained to illustrate this year’s theme, “The Bible in Colour”. The church will be open between 10am and 5pm tomorrow (Saturday), between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Sunday, and between 10am and 5pm on Monday. Besides admiring the floral displays, you can also enjoy the wonderful view of the Brede Valley (and far beyond) from the top of the church tower. For a change this year, coffee, tea, cakes and ploughman’s lunches will be served in the Scout Hut in Stubb Lane, conveniently sited next to the car park, where there will also be a stall for the Grand Raffle, and others for jams, preserves, garden produce and paraphernalia, antiques/good quality bric-a-brac, cakes and books.
