Udimore village voice

Tomorrow (Saturday), from noon till 2pm, the Friends of St Mary’s look forward to welcoming lots of you to their barbecue by the village pond (in the Hall, if it’s wet). Besides barbecued burgers and hot dogs, there will be a licensed bar selling beer, wine and soft drinks, and a tombola. Do come!

Two more events have been added to the programme of celebrations for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, both of them on Saturday June 2:

1) From noon onwards there will be a street party at the King’s Head (outdoors, if the weather permits) lunch to be served at 2pm. Tickets are already on sale there (£7.50 for adults, £5 for children, under 3 years old free). It would be a good idea to book soon, as the King’s Head team can cater for only a limited number.

2) In the evening the Parsonage Farm five mile Rockabilly Race will start at 6pm (just one race this time). For spectators who come to watch the race and support the runners there will be Pimm’s, Harvey’s and soft drinks for sale, with nibbles and a barbecue. Entry to the course will be free, any profits from the drinks and food will be for St Mary’s Church funds.

The cake recently raffled at the King’s Head raised £86 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The organizers would like to thank everyone who bought tickets, and, in particular, Jolene who donated the very fine cake.

You may have noticed that there is no longer a facility for recycling cardboard in the Jempsons/Budgens staff car park. This very useful facility is now available at another Rye site instead: the South end of Simmons Fish Quay, near Alsfords timber yard. It’s open every Thursday from 5 till 6pm. This is an environmentally much friendlier way of recycling this valuable material than putting it in our green wheely bins.
