Nomination begins for European election

An election has been called for May 22 to select the UK representatives in the European Parliament.

The nomination period for European Parliamentary candidates opened on 11 April and closes at 4pm on 24 April 2014.

All registered British, Irish, European Union and resident Commonwealth electors living in the District can take part.

The deadline for new registration applications is 5pm on May 6 and the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 7 May 2014.

In total, seventy-three MEPs are to be elected to the 12 electoral regions in the UK.

Mid Sussex is part of the South East region, which is represented on the European Parliament by 10 Members.

Anyone in Mid Sussex wishing to stand for election to the European Parliament needs to contact the Regional Returning Officer, Mark Heath at Southampton City Council, Room 84, Civic Centre, Southampton SO14 7LY, telephone 023 8083 4533.
