10) Care for Veterans, Boundary Road, Worthing, West Sussex - around 1.20pm

11) Hepworth, West Sussex

The stops were selected by readers of the Daily Mail.

CEO of the Care for Veterans charity, Andy Neaves, said: “Care for Veterans looks after three veterans who were actively involved in World War 2. We also have a large military family who have been involved in numerous other conflicts around the world. VE day must be celebrated differently this year and the Spitfire, synonymous with battling the odds and a perfect example of overcoming adversity, is the ultimate commemoration. As the veterans see, and hear, this magnificent aeroplane I can guarantee their spirits will soar.”

One of the veterans is Len Gibbon. He said: "The last time I saw a Spitfire, I was in Hamburg, Germany. I was pulling the throttle down hard on my motorbike riding fast, the road ablaze with fire, and I saw a Spitfire coming towards me flying low. From my side, I saw someone waving at me, I knew then the war had ended. I stood on my saddle and celebrated. I will wear my jacket, whisky in hand, and wave back once more to celebrate this day.”

Dame Vera Lynn, 103, known as the forces' sweetheart, gave a special VE Day message to readers; click here to read it.
