VIDEO: Chichester community congratulates Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

CONGRATULATORY messages flooded in from across the Chichester district following the birth of a new member of the British Royal Family.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a girl at 8.34am on May 2.

The Mayor of Chichester John Hughes said: “On behalf of Chichester we were so pleased to hear the wonderful news the palace announced this morning, the safe arrival of a little Princess for Kate and William.

“And how wonderful - a little sister for George!

“We send them good wishes with their new little family.”

Reverend Dave Willis is the vicar of Midhurst. He said: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the safe arrival of their daughter.

“With the rest of the nation, we in Midhurst are delighted for them.

“May God bless them at this special time and through the days and weeks ahead.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared outside the hospital with their daughter, who was born earlier on Saturday.

The princess slept in her mother’s arms during her first public appearance on the steps of St Mary’s Hospital before the family left for Kensington Palace.

The princess - who is fourth in line to the throne - was ‘safely delivered’ at 8.34am, weighing 8lbs 3oz (3.7kg).

The Bishop of Chichester also sent his congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge following the birth of their daughter.

The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner sent his message on behalf of the diocese of Chichester.

“On behalf of the diocese of Chichester I offer our congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter; may she always be aware of God’s love for her,” said Dr Warner.

“This is a moment of celebration for any family, a point at which we are reminded of the mystery of life as God’s gift to us.

“We assure the Duke and Duchess of our prayers for their happiness in family life and all that the future will demand of them.”
