Unearthing stories of Littlehampton at war

The museum, in Church Street, is hosting a special exhibition to mark the centenary, in September.

The display will be looking back at how the town coped with the war and how fighting in Europe affected the lives of those left behind. It will also be telling the tales of some of the town’s men who went away to fight for their country.

The museum would now like to hear from anybody who has any artefacts or stories from the first world war they would like to share.

This could be a soldier’s letter home from the front line, or a photograph or story from a great-grandparent who lived here during the conflict.

Councillor Malcolm Belchamber, chairman of Littlehampton Town Council’s community resources committee, said: “This is going to be a fascinating exhibition. I hope this request will uncover some unknown local stories to really add a personal touch to our display.”

All items loaned will be safely locked in display cases.

Photographs or letters can be scanned and returned upon request. Donations to the display need to be made before the end of May.
