Uni rugby team losing locks in mass shave

The mens rugby team at the University of Chichester all set for the Big Shave

The men’s rugby team is holding a head shaving event on Tuesday as part of Marchkaemia.

President Tom Blewitt, 22, said: “We are hoping to raise awareness of this cancer as well as help raise as much money as possible for Leukaemia CARE, an inspirational charity helping individuals with leukaemia as well as families affected.

“In total approximately 60 men’s rugby players will be having their heads shaved for the charity.

“The Big Shave event is at Buzby and Blue hairdressing salon, who are being incredibly generous and doing all the squad head shaving for free.”

Tom rallied the team having decided to do it ‘bigger and better’ than previous head shave fundraisers.

They will gather at the salon, at 46-48 The Hornet, from midday to 2pm and Tom is urging university students and city residents to go along to support them.

He added: “It is my final year at university, along with a lot of the players in the team, and we would love to leave doing something amazing as a lasting legacy.

“I feel that awareness on the day as well as the money raised will help students to be more aware about blood cancers and how it affects so many people nationally.

“We chose to do this fundraiser for Leukaemia CARE because both I and the guys on the team were very touched about how the charity not only supported the patients, but everyone else affected by blood cancers.

“I searched for a charity focused on supporting people affected by a blood cancer and when I came across Leukaemia CARE, I loved what I saw and knew this was the charity we needed to help.”
