Hannah Morrish, education community manager at The Student Room said: "Clearing vacancies went live at 6pm on the August 12 on the UCAS website and are kept updated. If you're in clearing, do your research and talk through the options with the people that know you best.

"You'll need to ring up the universities that interest you; make sure you've got all your details (including your UCAS clearing number and your grades) to hand before you do so. When you call, ask lots of relevant questions and make sure you ask about accommodation availability.

You can shop around in clearing; don't feel under pressure to accept the first course offered to you. You can receive multiple offers and then chose the one that suits you. The deadline for clearing choices and for universities to make decisions is October  21, but you want to get a place confirmed as soon as you can because popular courses will fill up fast. Don't try your luck and enter a Clearing course choice on Track before you receive a verbal offer, it's a waste of time and it could take over 24 hours for you to receive a rejection from the uni.

"Not going to university? Thinking about taking a year out? There are lots of alternatives to university like taking a gap year, internships, apprenticeships or going straight into employment to earn money and climb the career ladder."
