UPDATE: 14 people arrested in suspected immigration sting near Arundel

POLICE have arrested more than a dozen people today (Thursday, November 27) following a suspected immigration bust.

Officers stopped a lorry on the A27 at Tangmere at 11.34am after reports that it has stopped previously at Madehurst, near Arundel, and people had been seen jumping out the back and disappearing into nearby woods.

Officers arrested 13 people, who are suspected of being in the country illegally, who were found nearby and a 53-year-old man was arrested for facilitating illegal entry into the country.

They have been taken to custody to await the UK immigration enforcement.

Louisa Cotterill, who had been staying with her family in Climping saw the bust unfold along the A27, towards Chichester.

She said: “The carriageway had been blocked off by several police vehicles. There was also a yellow CCTV van present.

“It was certainly unusual to see so many police vehicles and they had obviously only just attended as the traffic was only just starting to build up behind the cordon.”
