Southern Water, which is responsible for fixing mains bursts in the area, said engineers were currently fixing an issue caused by a ten inch water main in a wooded area between the two villages.

The problem left many homes in the RH14 area this afternoon without water, while other properties experienced low pressure.

A spokesman for the Southern Water said: “Water supply has been restored to all but a handful of properties in the affected area.

“Our crew is on site working to fix the problem.

“The burst is in a wooded area, and we are awaiting the arrival of a digger to access the damaged main.”

“Our crews are working as quickly as possible, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The spokesman could not confirm when the issue was expected to be fixed.
