East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Texaco Garage at 11.45pm where a petrol tanker’s drive shaft had come off.

It had damaged the tanker and the car.

The tanker developed a small leak and was losing petrol while it was in a slipway near the petrol station.

The car leaked 80 litres of petrol across the Texaco forecourt.

Two fire engines were sent to help clean up the spillage, leaving at about 2.15pm.

One lane was closed. Sussex Police and the Environment Agency attended the incident.
