UPDATE: A283 Fittleworth to Pulborough closed after lorry crash

THE A283 at Stopham, near Petworth, has been closed today (May 5) after a HGV collided with a telegraph pole.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Stopham Road around 9am after a lorry hit the pole. The driver was uninjured.

The Sussex West Roads Policing Unit (RPU) said the road could be closed for around five hours.

An RPU spokesman said: “We have had to close the A283 between Lower Street, Fittleworth and the A29 London Road at Pulborough.”

Network Power are currently working in the road to repair damaged electric cables, which could take up to five hours.

A spokesman for Sussex Police added: “Emergency services were called to Stopham Road in Pulborough at 9.09am on Tuesday (May 5) to a lorry which had hit a telegraph pole.

“The road was blocked but no-one was injured.”
