The club tweeted: “As of now Thursdays Nightclub is now CLOSED.

“Thanks to all our customers that have made ts what it is.”

The news has received a mixed reaction across social media, with many lamenting the loss of the club - the only of its kind in the area - and others praising the closure.

Some people are calling for a Tiger Tiger nightclub to open in its place and others are calling for a club to open at Chichester Gate Leisure Park in Terminus Road.

Speaking on Facebook, Helen Christmas said: “Sad news, I remember Thursdays from my youth. Would be a good opportunity for some local entrepreneur to build a new club in one of those empty units at Chichester Gate.”

However Jess Osborne said: “breaking news?? Good anyway the place was a dump And now hopefully there be no more deaths at that train crossing..”
